The academic advisor in an educational unit is, in the first place, responsible for everything connected with the work of advising as well as participating in processes related to planning, follow-up and evaluation within the limits decided by the Academic Advisory Committee in the educational unit.

Most important responsibilities of the academic advisor include:

1. Implementing advisory programs for freshman students.
2. Advising students both intellectually and on behavioral issues.
3. Following up the distribution of student groups among faculty advisors and following up on the implementation of special programs for each group.
4. Gathering outstanding students as group and implementing programs suited to their needs.
5. Following up on under-performing students and studying the reasons for underperformance in the departments and courses especially when the problem is obvious and striving to treat it.
6. Being proactive in following up scholarship students and apply appropriate study programs for them.
7. Supervising the execution of advisory programs for general students in coordination with the Student Activities group in light of decisions made by the Academic Advisory Committee within the educational unit.
8. Setting up one-on-one meetings for cases where they are needed and proposing solutions to the competent authorities when necessary.
9. Reporting and offering opinions on unusual cases of the students as observed by the advisor or as recommended by the Dean or Vice-dean of the educational unit.
10. Participating in the work related to the planning, follow-up and evaluation processes as determined by the academic advising committee in the educational unit.
11. Defining quality standards and giving them due diligence as well as urging teachers and students to follow them.
12. Serving as secretary for the Academic Advisory Committee for the educational unit in which the advisor works. This committee is headed by the Dean who deputes his Vice-dean and the committee membership consists of two representatives from each educational / scientific department along with the Academic Advisor for the unit. The Advisor must arrange for the committee to meet at least once in a semester in which matters related to academic advising within the educational unit are discussed. He must record the proceedings of this meeting send its recommendations to the Deanship of Admissions & Registration.
13. Following up on leaflets, banners and announcements related to advising with the responsible persons / organization within the unit.
14. Continuously coordinating and following up with the Center for Academic Advising in the Deanship of Admissions & Registration and attending the periodic meetings of the Advisory Board in the Deanship.
15. Following up on the registration of students according to their academic schedules in the course registration period in every semester.
16. Directing students who are expected to graduate by verifying the integrity of their data using the online self-service system and by filling the specific application form for receiving the official diploma and submission of the same to the Graduation Department in the Deanship of Admissions & Registration.
17. The student must electronically complete the clearance process before he can receive his diploma and file from the university.
