The religion of Islam promulgates not only knowledge and contemplation but also reflection upon Allah's creation as a means of appreciating the Creator's divine omnipotence. That is why Muslims have embraced science and produced prominent scholars who excelled in various scientific fields and were the luminous image of Muslim civilization.
Muslim scholars' science and arts achievements corroborate both their ingenuity and candidness and help shore up the fact that – contrary to Western Orientalists' allegations – they did not only transfer ancient Greek and Persian civilizations to the world, but also made their own contributions that helped launch the European Renaissance. Based on solid scientific methodology, these contributions left a permanent impression on the advancement and development of human knowledge – a legacy of well-stablished scientific works featuring correction, interpretation, revision and experimentation linking the past and the present. Essaying to realize the aims of Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, in implementation of the University's scientific, cultural and global mission in recognition of the necessity of highlighting the contributions of Muslim scholars in the golden age to humanity of Muslim cognitive successes and gains whose impact on human civilization is clearly felt in the foundation of modern scientific progress, in recognition of Muslims' contributions to modern civilization of their achievements in applied and medical sciences and the necessity to unveil them to future generations, the University, represented by the Institute of the History of Arab and Muslim Sciences, has taken the initiative to convene the first History of Arab and Muslim Applied and Medical Sciences International Conference with an aim to uncovering and underscoring that legacy to match the University's general aim and mission. With its internationally acclaimed position and with its lofty academic status, the University is well-suited to undertake this role and will therefore take the opportunity of the first History of Arab and Muslim Applied and Medical Sciences International Conference to contribute to the development of the relevant research process and keep in step with cognitive development. In addition, the Conference will enhance Islam's civilization message pioneered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. Together, they provide the impetus for leadership on the local, regional and international levels. Furthermore, the Conference is a good opportunity for the University to communicate with specialists and those concerned with the history of science and human knowledge in the University and the world at large.
