​Climate Action Policy

Introduction​

Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) acknowledges the importance of addressing climate change and assumes its responsibility as a leading educational institution in promoting Islamic values and sustainable development. Aware of the impact of climate change on the country, the region, and the world, we commit to taking significant measures to reduce our carbon footprint, foster sustainability, and promote environmentally- friendly practices.


Objectives

  • Emission Reduction: We will work to decrease greenhouse gas emissions generated by our operations and academic activities. We strive to achieve carbon neutrality in our facilities and operations by 2030.
  • Clean Energy: We will promote the use of clean and renewable energy in our infrastructure, facilities, and operations. We aim to gradually increase the proportion of renewable energy in our electricity supply to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Energy Efficiency: We will implement energy efficiency measures in buildings and campuses to reduce energy consumption and optimize its use.
  • Water Management: We will encourage water conservation practices and the adoption of sustainable technologies to ensure responsible and efficient use of water resources.
  • Sustainable Mobility: We will promote the use of public transportation, cycling, and the adoption of electric vehicles to reduce emissions associated with the transportation of the university community.
  • Research and Innovation: We will foster research and the development of clean technologies, as well as the study of climate solutions based on Islamic science and sustainable principles.​
  • Awareness and Education: We will integrate environmental education and climate change awareness into our curriculum and student activities to educate future leaders with an environmentally conscious approach.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: We will partner with governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as other educational institutions, to jointly address climate change challenges and strengthen our capacity for action.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: We will establish a monitoring and evaluation system to measure the progress in implementing our climate policies and actions, identifying areas for improvement, and adjusting our strategies accordingly.
  • Transparency and Accountability: We will maintain open communication with our university community and society at large about our climate initiatives, sharing progress and challenges as we move towards a more sustainable future.
