The Department of History and Civilization at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University is one of the departments of the College of Social Sciences and is one of the oldest and most prestigious departments since the university was founded, as it began its journey in 1390 AH. It is an important reference in many historical studies and research that cover successive historical eras, starting with ancient history, Islamic history, as well as modern and contemporary history. Since its establishment, the department has been moving steadily towards academic and scientific excellence to achieve its desired goals, as it contains a number of study programs that aim to provide students with diverse historical knowledge and the skills necessary to keep pace with modern trends in historical scientific research. The department also works to prepare a generation qualified academically and professionally to serve society and meet the needs of the labor market, by developing its existing programs and adding new programs that keep pace with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, such as the new tracks in the bachelor's program, which are: the heritage and culture track, the diplomatic history and international relations track, the military and security history track, the national history track, and the historical content track, which began working and teaching starting from the academic year 1445 AH. The Department of History and Civilization also participates in teaching a number of undergraduate courses in a number of the university’s colleges.
The department also includes postgraduate programs that began in the academic year 1395/1396 AH, through which students are awarded master’s degrees and doctoral degrees in Islamic history, modern and contemporary history. The department also contributes to the production and publication of scientific research in ancient and Islamic history, modern and contemporary history, through a group of distinguished professors in the department who specialize in various historical tracks.
