About Department
As part of its continuous review of colleges, departments, and academic programs to achieve excellence and to contribute effectively to the nation's development plans, Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University approved in 1426 AH the establishment of the Departments of Mathematics and Physics as two separate departments under the College of Computer Science and Information (Decision No. 1660 – 1425/1426 AH).
Subsequently, by Royal Decree dated 15/10/1427 AH, the College of Science was established at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, comprising four departments: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Accordingly, the Department of Mathematics was transferred from the College of Computer Science and Information on 28/2/1427 AH (Decision No. 9/41/1428).
Later, on 20/10/1432 AH, the department was renamed the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (Decision No. 51/66/1432). The department currently offers the following programs:
- Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics: Launched in the second semester of the academic year 1426/1427 AH at the male campus with the first cohort of 23 students. Female students were admitted beginning in the first semester of the academic year 1430/1431 AH with 22 students.
- Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics: Approved on 12/11/1442 AH (Decision No. 29-13-1441/1442). The first male cohort was admitted in the first semester of the academic year 1444 AH with 34 students. The first female cohort was admitted in the first semester of the academic year 1446 AH with 38 students.
- Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science and Financial Mathematics: Approved on 13/11/1446 AH (Decision No. 21-10-1446). The first male and female cohorts were admitted in the first semester of the academic year 1446 AH with 37 male students and 37 female students, respectively.
| - Master of Science in Mathematics: Approved on 3/3/1436 AH (Decision No. 2717-1435/1436). The first cohort was admitted in the first semester of the academic year 1435/1436 AH with 10 female students.
| - Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics: Approved on 10/8/1442 AH (Decision No. 56-10-1441/1442). The first cohort was admitted in the second semester of the academic year 1445 AH with 5 female students.

Our Objectives
- Put forward excellent academic programs in line with modern development in mathematical sciences. Academic programs are designed in accordance with job market needs through the introduction of a variety of specialties (Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, applied statistics), with special emphasis on mathematical applications to equip the graduating students with skills needed to work for companies and research centers.
- Keep pace with modern development in mathematical sciences through the adoption of updated courses in line with the continuous development of these sciences.
- Organize training sessions in applied mathematics (such as applied statistics) in accordance with the community's needs, and offer
- Prepare qualified graduates for higher education and teaching.
- Activate scientific research and make it the department's top priority by creating research units in different areas and organize regular scientific seminars.
- Scientific supervision of courses in mathematics and statistics taught at different faculties of the university.
- Provide consulting services and organize sessions in applied mathematics and statistics for companies as required within the kingdom.
