Achievements of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics

for the Academic Year 2023-2024​

Appointments and Promotions:​

• Appointing His Excellency Dr. Naif bin Mohammed Alotaibi, Associate Professor at the Department and former Dean of the College, as Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.
• Appointing His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Dayel, Associate Professor at the Department and former Head of the Department, as Dean of the College.
• Appointing Her Excellency Dr. Ibtisam bint Muhammad Al-Duwaish, Associate Professor at the Department and former Vice Dean of the Female Students Branch, as Head of the Department.
• Promoting 2 teaching assistants at the department to the rank of lecturer.
• Appointing 5 lecturers at the department at the rank of assistant professor.
• Promotion of 9 faculty members at the department to the rank of Associate Professor.
• Promoting one faculty member at the department to the rank of professor.

Scholarships:

• One female scholarship student obtained a master's degree.
• Three scholarship students (1 male, 2 females) obtained a PhD degree.
• One lecturer received an external scholarship during the year.

Students and Graduates:

• The number of students enrolled in the undergraduate stage during the year was 549 (226 males and 323 females), in the master's stage 30 (15 males and 15 females), and in the doctoral stage 8 (0 males and 8 females) in all the department's various programs.
• Graduation of 850 (314 males and 536 females) holders of a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics since the beginning of the program until now.
• Graduation of 41 (2 males, 39 females) holders of a Master of Science degree in Mathematics since the beginning of the program until now.

Academic Programs:

• Creating a Bachelor of Science program in “Actuarial and Financial Mathematics" to bring the number of department programs to 5 programs.
• Completion of the two-semester transition plan for the department's five programs (Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics, Bachelor of Actuarial Science and Financial Mathematics, Master of Science in Mathematics, Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics).
• Opening the PhD program in Mathematics in 2023 and starting to receive students holding a Master of Science degree in Mathematics, with the number of batches reaching about two batches since the beginning of the program until now.

​Scientific Research:

• The number of research papers published by faculty members at the department in peer-reviewed scientific journals within the Basic Sciences Network amounted to approximately 345 research papers during the year.
• Classification of 6 faculty members at the department among the 2% of the most distinguished and influential scientists in the world according to the Stanford Scholars Ranking for the year 2024.
• The department's faculty members obtained 75 research projects funded by the university (23 research priorities, 18 research groups, 34 global research partnerships), more than 90% of which have been completed.
• One of the faculty members at the department (Dr. Youssef Laz​ar) proved the Oppenheim conjecture in a new, more in-depth way, and published it in the journal Acta Arithmetica, which is considered one of the prestigious scientific journals specializing in “Number Theory".
• Honoring 9 faculty members at the department on the occasion of their research excellence at the college level.
• Won 5 scientific awards within the Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University Award for Excellence (scientific research, translation, quality).

Seminars, Conferences and Events:

• Organizing 6 scientific seminars and lectures during the current academic year.
• Organizing two competitions within the department's sports activities during the current academic year.
• Organizing 3 conferences on academic guidance for students enrolled in the department during the current academic year.
• Holding 6 celebrations for national occasions, public and social services during the current academic year.
• Holding 3 training courses, programs and workshops for the department's staff during the current academic year.
• The department implemented 5 training courses and programs to serve the local community during the current academic year.
• Participation of 4 members of the department in international conferences.
• Holding a scientific exhibition for the department at the Research Center at Imam University.
