A delegation from the Physics Department, including a group of students from different levels, accompanied by Dr. Ahmad Al-Qaoud (Head of the Department), Dr. Raed Al-Hathlool (Vice Dean of the College for Development and Quality and Chair of the Scientific Committee that organized the visit), and Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hamarneh (Deputy Head of the Department), visited SABIC Plastics Applications Development Center in Riyadh, on Thursday, 20/2/1437 AH, corresponding to 2/12/2015 AD.
Yazeed Al-Juhani (Public Relations Representative), H.E. Eng. Saad Al-Hussain, and H.E. Eng. Abdulmalik Al-Sulaimi received the delegation. At the beginning of the visit, they met in the Meeting Hall of the Company building at King Saud University. Eng. Saad Al-Hussain started the meeting by welcoming the visiting delegation wishing them a beneficial and interesting visit. Then, he clarified the importance and the leading role of SABIC in supporting the economy of the Kingdom and the development of the national industry. After that, he mentioned different branches of the Company all over the Kingdom and worldwide, in addition to its products and fundamental industries as one of the most important companies in the world. For instance, vehicles tires and parts that form external and internal automotive design, production of plastic pipes, PVC and Perspex pipes, and many other manufactured products.
Eng. Al-Hussain pointed out that students and graduates of the Physics Department are welcomed in the Company whether for training, conducting graduation research, or jobs.
Next, Engr. Abdulmalik Al-Sulaimi talked about the most important local and international companies that use SABIC's raw materials in their industry. Then, Engr. Al-Hussain made a field tour for the delegation which included a number of laboratories and sections of the Company. H.E. also provided a detailed explanation of methods applied in the Company to manufacture many raw materials, their uses, and industries depending on them, in addition to mentioning some of these materials like polymers and chemicals which are used in manufacturing many other products. Students largely interacted during this tour and their questions were answered. Afterwards, the delegation, along with Eng. Al-Sulaimi, visited laboratories which provide physical properties measurement services for materials manufactured in the Company. In this tour, students had the opportunity to get to know Measurement and Calibration laboratories and listened to a detailed explanation on measurement ways and devices included in the Mechanical calibration laboratory, and measurement of Physical, luminary, and Electrical properties done by the Company for its products.
At the end of the visit, Dr. Ahmad Al-Qaoud and Dr. Raed Al-Hathlool thanked the Company and its staff for hosting the delegation of the Physics Department and giving students the opportunity to get to know the work fields in this Company and its products. They also focused on the importance of this visit by showing students many professional and practical fields in which they can work after graduation. In addition, the visit consolidated the cooperation between the two institutions staff in terms of training, research, and students' graduation projects.
This activity is part of the Scientific Committee activities in the Physics Department, which aim at introducing leading national institutions, contributing to the development and enhancement of the academic level of students, and enhancing their relationship with their specific specialization and increasing their knowledge about it. They also aim at opening wide horizons for students academically during study years, and professionally after graduation to prepare them to be distinctive individuals in order to contribute in building a positive society in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
A number of Department students participated in the visit, and they are: Ahmad Abdulmuhsin Al-Maliki, Muhammad Abdullah Al-Qahtani, Abdulaziz Saad Al-Ajroush, Mubarak Taya Al-Dosari, Abdullah Malih Al-Azmi, Abdulaziz Faisal Al-Buhaijan, and Saleh Ibrahim Al-Zrair.
Students who participated in the visit expressed their gratitude and appreciation for organizing such visit and commended how much they benefited from it and the huge impact it had t on them, which will reflect positively upon their academic performance and contribute to developing their future perspective after graduation.
It is worth mentioning that Physics the Department staff have expressed deep appreciation to Dr. Muhammad Marashdeh for coordinating and organizing the participation of students and Mr. Abdullah Al-Funaisan (Secretary of Vice Deanship of the College for Development and Quality) for his considerable efforts in organizing and coordinating this successful visit.
