In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, all praise to Almighty Allah and peace be upon His Messenger Prophet Mohammad and his family and all his companions;

Your Excellency Dr. Fawzan Al-Fawzan, Acting Rector of the University, Prof. Fahad Al-Askar, Vice-Rector of Higher Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muqbil, Dean of Scientific Research, respectable senior figures, university vice rectors and deans, all attendants;

Today is a distinguished day, on which the university awards its members of scholars and researchers for their efforts in academic research in the past year. Researchers eagerly await this day to be honored by the highest authorities of the university in recognition of their distinction and creativity. The College of Science and all its members are very proud to be honored for their efforts in supporting and disseminating research culture. Such reward can only incite them to exert their utmost effort to maintain this endeavor and do their best achieve excellence every year.

 With your kind permission let me now present to you figures and facts about the College of Science;

The College of Science was established upon the Royal Decree on 27th / 10 / 1427 A.H. with its present four departments (Mathematics – Physics – Chemistry – Biology), which were then only two departments, mathematics and physics, at the College of Computer and Information Sciences. During the last nine years the college has developed and expanded to become comprehensive. It gives more than 2000 hours of teaching per week, a number of teaching hours which is on the rise.

There are currently six programs: -

·         Bachelor of Applied Mathematics.

·         Bachelor of Physics.

·         Bachelor of Chemistry.

·         Master of Science in Mathematics.

These programs are available for both male and female students. Next semester other programs will start, namely:

·         Bachelor of Biology (for male students).

·         Master of Science in Physics (for both male and female students).

All these programs have been refereed inside and outside the country and soon they will be academically accredited. Moreover, the College of Science is also a supportive college since more than 40% of its credit hours are taught at other colleges (College of Engineering - College of Computer and Information Sciences - College of Economics and Administrative Science - College of Medicine).

As for research, ever since 2007 to 2015, faculty have completed 600 research works, most of them published in international indexed journals.

The number of research works is increasing every year and the college administration is keen to maintain this distinction. In line with our college which has fulfilled its commitment to increase academic publications, we promise , with Allah's will to meet the directives of the university Acting Rector Dr. Fowzan Al-Fowzan  to continue in these efforts to increase the number of published research works in international journal, in the coming years .
The college has gained 12 national projects for about 20 million Saudi Riyal from King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, which were invested to establish some research laboratories. This has helped the College to establish some of its research laboratories. On this occasion, I would like to thank the Unit of Science and Technology at the University represented by its headperson Dr. Khaled Al-Shelfan for their great cooperation with the college and  the researchers.

The College of Science is among the comprehensive colleges , open to cooperation with other colleges for fruitful scientific research. Moreover, the college is strongly involved in community service which is clearly stated in its vision, mission and objectives, and reflected in its strategic five-year plan which we hope to achieve, God willing.

I would like to conclude with the  Prophet' s saying (Hadith), peace be upon Him,

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon Him, said,  "He who does not thank the people is not thankful to Allah", [Narrated by Ahmad (7755), Abi Dawud (4198), Al-Tirmidhi - Sahih Al-Jame' (1926) and authenticated by Al-Albani].

Therefore, the administration of the College of Science extends its thanks to H.E. Dr. Fawzan Al-Fawzan, Acting Rector of the University, for honoring us to sponsor this celebration. We also thank Prof. Fahad Al-Askar, Vice-Rector of Higher Studies and Scientific Research, and Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muqbil, Dean of Scientific Research, for their care to award the college and set up the necessary mechanisms, regulations and incentives to encourage faculty to pay their utmost efforts in scientific research and publishing.

We would also like to thank all Vice-Rectors, Supporting Deanships, Technical Affairs, and the University Printing Press for their continuous support. I would like to specifically thank all the college administrative staff of Vice-Deans, Heads of Departments, personnel and technicians. More thanks to our distinguished college researchers.

God bless our Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions
