A Report on the Field Visit to "Saudi Food and Drug Authority" (SFDA) – Students of the Department of Chemistry

The Chemistry Department in the College of Science – Al Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University visited the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) – Drug Sector on Tuesday, 02/01/1438 AH. This visit was the first visit of the Chemistry Department in this semester. The delegation of the visit included:

1.     Dr. Sami Abdulaziz Al-Hussein        (Head of the Chemistry Department)

2.     Prof. Majdi Al-Sayed Zaki      (Deputy Head of the Chemistry Department)

3.     Prof. Abdulrahman Barakat Al-Jazzar       (Professor of Organic Chemistry)

4.     Dr. Fouad Aarif Ababnah                   (Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry)

5.     Dr. Lutfi Hadi Al-Khuzami                     (Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry)

6.     Prof. Muhammad Ahmad Heikal                (Professor of Inorganic Chemistry)

Mr. Mubarak Muhammad Al Abu Dahash, Executive Director of the Drug Sector Executive Directorate of Laboratories, welcomed the delegation, noting the importance of such visits in refining the skills of students. Then, he reviewed a brief explanation of SFDA and its role in society in maintaining the authenticity and quality of its outputs. He completed his presentation by explaining the structure of the Drug Sector in the Authority and the advanced devices of the Authority. This was followed by a visit to the Animal House, under the supervision of Muhammad Hamamah, Laboratory Specialist, where he explained part of the animal insemination processes, as well as testing their effects on them, and the life cycle of these animals in details. Then, they moved to the Department of "Drugs of Unknown Composition," headed by Faisal Al-Buqami, Pharmacist 1, where he presented some of the Department works, explained the steps of analyzing unknown drugs, and warned about the use of unauthorized drugs and adulterated herbal mixtures.

This was followed by visits to the sections for the analysis of cosmetics and human and herbal antibiotics. Finally, the visit was concluded with recommendations from Mr. Mubarak Al Abu Dahash. The most prominent recommendation was that the readiness of the Authority, represented by the Drug Sector, to provide summer training for students. He also commended the Department initiative of coordinating this visit and showing a cooperation spirit. Moreover, he welcomed again the members and students of the Department bidding farewell to them at the end of the visit. It is worth mentioning that Mr. Khalid Ibrahim Al-Aswad, Secretary of the Chemistry Department and Member of the Training and Visits Committee, coordinated and arranged this visit. Both the students Salem Muhammad Jahlan and Aadel Rashed Al-Buqami participated in preparing the report.
