A Report on the Seminar "Scientific Research Skills: Mechanisms of Accessing Knowledge"


The College of Science aims to develop research, study, and learning skills of its graduates, because of its belief in investing in knowledge economy and supporting sustainable development in light of accelerated scientific development in Mathematics and Statistics. The World today is racing to reach the greatest possible amount of precise and fruitful knowledge which ensures comfort, wellbeing, and progress.

For establishing this role, regarded as a major role of the College of Science, for its excellence, and scientific leadership -given that scientific research is a cornerstone of human knowledge in the various fields- the Mathematics and Statistics Department is keen to organize many activities such as seminars, workshops, and training programs to serve graduates' needs for knowledge and skills required by the labor market, and help them complete their research projects successfully.

In this regard, the Mathematics and Statistics Department organized an educational Seminar, entitled "Scientific Research Skills: Mechanisms of Accessing Knowledge," on Tuesday, 01/10/1438 AH, corresponding to 10/11/2016 AD, at 9:00 am, for almost an hour, in the Hall 1c511 at King Abdullah City for Female Students. The Seminar was presented by Dr. Mona Khandaqi, Associate Professor in the Mathematics and Statistics Department, for level eight and postgraduate students, especially students specializing in Applied Mathematics.

The main themes of the Seminar were to identify some scientific research skills, the method of using Microsoft Word in writing mathematical equations, and the method of reading downloaded files from the Internet using Acrobat Reader.

The Seminar had some important goals, including:

1.     Determining the concept of scientific research and knowing its elements.

2.     Identifying the method of accessing knowledge in scientific research.

3.     Using the Internet to find scientific information.

4.     Writing references and arranging them.

5.     Knowing the mechanism of writing mathematical equations using Microsoft Word.

6.     Using Acrobat Reader to read files.

The Seminar was concluded with the students thanking the presenter Dr. Mona Khandaqi for her valuable and distinguished contribution. They mentioned how far they benefited from this Seminar and asked to have similar scientific events and activities continuously for more new knowledge and skills.
