The Department of Physics Pursues the Series of Academic Seminars with a Seminar by Dr. Basmah Al-Badri

The Physics Department (Female Section) organized the 6th Seminar during the second semester of the academic year 1436/1437 AH, entitled

 "Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors."

Dr. Basmah Al-Badri presented the Seminar on Tuesday, 07/12/1437 AH, corresponding to 04/19/2016 AD, at 09:15 a.m., for half an hour. It was followed by questions and discussions from the attendees.

Dr. Al-Badri began the Seminar by giving an idea about radiation, types and sources of radiation, damage caused by radiation, and radiation protection and detection. The Seminar also dealt with the fundamental information concerning solid-state nuclear track detectors, and clarified some important applications in which this type of detectors is used. She also mentioned the nuclear effect in such detectors and how to get this effect, and explained the distinctive characteristics of this type of detectors. Faculty members and students of the Department were involved in the discussion regarding several points, including telling the difference between mass corrosion rate and corrosion of nuclear effect rate and presenting a summary of the devices used in laboratory measurements in this field.

This Seminar falls within a series of seminars held by the Scientific Committee in the Physics Department and presented by faculty members in the Department and researchers from other research sectors. They aim at motivating the scientific research environment in the Department and informing its members of the latest advances in physical sciences in various fields.

It is noteworthy to mention that attending these seminars is open to all University members, including female faculty and staff members and students.
