في إطار النشاط العلمي والبحثي لقسم الفيزياء بكلية العلوم، أقام القسم ندوة علمية بعنوان:
Cu/Cu2O/C nanoparticles and MXene based composite for non-enzymatic glucose sensors
In this seminar, we present our work on a Cu/Cu₂O/C nanoparticle-decorated MXene composite for non-enzymatic glucose sensing. We investigated its electrochemical performance for glucose detection and explored the interaction between the composite and glucose molecules using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The composite was synthesized via a hydrothermal method followed by annealing under an inert atmosphere for different durations. Among the prepared samples, the material annealed for 15 minutes exhibited the highest electrocatalytic activity toward glucose oxidation. The sensor demonstrated a linear detection range of 0.001–26.9 mM, with sensitivities of 762.53 μA mM⁻¹ cm⁻² over the concentration range of 0.001–10.1 mM and 397.18 μA mM⁻¹ cm⁻² over the range of 11.2–26.9 mM. The limit of detection (LOD) was 0.103 μM. Furthermore, DFT calculations were performed to investigate the interaction between the Cu/Cu₂O/C–MXene composite and glucose molecules. The calculated interaction energy between the composite and glucose was −67.36 kJ mol⁻¹, indicating a favorable interaction. The theoretical results also suggested that hydrogen bonding contributes to glucose adsorption on the composite. These findings provide insights into glucose adsorption and support the experimental observations of the composite's glucose-sensing performance
