في إطار النشاط العلمي والبحثي لقسم الرياضيات والإحصاء بكلية العلوم، أقام القسم ندوة علمية (سيمنار علمي) بعنوان:
A Decade of Research in Cricket Analytics: From Duckworth-Lewis Modelling to Dynamic Forecasting and Player Rating Systems
قدّمها سعادة الدكتور/ محمد آصف، وذلك صباح اليوم الأربعاء الموافق 2026/9/30 م في تمام الساعة 7:45 صباحاً بقاعة 2B-079 بالكلية.
وقد تناولت الندوة العلمية:
This presentation summarizes a decade of research focused on three key challenges in limited-overs cricket: fair target revision, in-play match forecasting, and context-aware player evaluation. The research began with the development of the Duckworth-Lewis-McHale-Asif (DLMA) model, which improved estimation of batting resources and provided a more flexible and accurate alternative to existing target-resetting methods in interrupted matches.
Building on this foundation, a dynamic logistic regression framework was developed to estimate win probabilities throughout a match, producing forecasts that closely tracked betting market assessments. This was followed by the introduction of a generalized non-linear forecasting model (GNLFM), providing a unified framework in which both the classical Duckworth-Lewis and DLMA models emerge as special cases.
The research program culminated in a novel player-rating system that evaluates batting and bowling performances according to match situation, pressure, wicket value, and scoring conditions. Applications to the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup demonstrated the ability of the method to identify player contributions more accurately than traditional performance measures.
Collectively, these studies establish an integrated cricket analytics framework spanning resource modelling, forecasting, team evaluation, and player performance assessment, with applications in sports analytics, decision support, and cricket governance.

وتأتي هذه الندوة ضمن سلسلة الأنشطة العلمية التي يحرص قسم الرياضيات والإحصاء على تنظيمها بشكل دوري وذلك في إطار تعزيز النشاط البحثي والأكاديمي بالقسم وحرصاً على إتاحة الفرصة للتفاعل العلمي وتبادل الخبرات والمعارف بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والباحثين وطلاب الدراسات العليا بالقسم.
