في إطار النشاط العلمي والبحثي لقسم الفيزياء بكلية العلوم، أقام القسم ندوة علمية بعنوان:
Density Functional Theory Insights into π-Conjugation Engineering for DSSCs: Balancing Efficiency and Structural Limitations
قدّمها سعادة الدكتور راجح حسين، وذلك صباح يوم الأربعاء الموافق 29/04/2026 م الموافق 12/11/1447 هـ في تمام الساعة 10:00 صباحاً في القاعة 03-33B بالكلية.
وقد تناولت الندوة العلمية ما يلي:
Density functional theory (DFT) is one of the most important computational tools in physical chemistry and materials science, providing a deep understanding of the electronic and structural properties of materials at the molecular level. In the context of renewable energy applications, this theory plays a pivotal role in the design and analysis of solar cell materials, particularly dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), whose efficiency depends on the nature of charge transport within the molecules.
This seminar focuses on how DFT and its time extensions (TD-DFT) techniques can be applied to the study of D-π-A molecular systems, which consist of an electron donor and acceptor linked by a conjugate bridge. These theoretical models enable researchers to explore the relationship between molecular structure and optical and electronic properties, such as the energy gap, light absorption, and charge transport.
The seminar also highlights the importance of balancing molecular structure design with achieving the desired functional performance, as structural modification does not always improve performance and may even pose challenges related to electron transport efficiency and system stability. Through this vision, the symposium highlights the role of computer modeling in guiding practical experiments and reducing cost and effort in developing effective materials for solar cells.
حيث استعرض الدكتور أبرز المحاور والنتائج ذات الصلة بالموضوع مقدماً طرحاً علمياً قيّماً أثار نقاشاً مثمراً بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والطلاب الحاضرين.
وتأتي هذه الندوة ضمن سلسلة الأنشطة العلمية التي يحرص قسم الفيزياء على تنظيمها بشكل دوري وذلك في إطار تعزيز النشاط البحثي والأكاديمي بالقسم وحرصاً على إتاحة الفرصة للتفاعل العلمي وتبادل الخبرات والمعارف بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والباحثين وطلاب الدراسات العليا بالقسم.
