في إطار النشاط العلمي والبحثي لقسم الأحياء بكلية العلوم (شطر الطالبات)، أقام قسم الأحياء ندوة علمية (سيمنار علمي) بعنوان:
The Importance of Seed Banks in the Conservation of Plant Genetic Resources
قدّمتها سعادة الدكتورة/ بدرية العماري- الأستاذ المساعد في قسم الأحياء - وذلك صباح يوم الإثنين 18 شوال 1447ه – 6 أبريل 2026م الساعة 8:25 صباحاً في قاعة سمينارات القسم شطر الطالبات.
وقد تناولت الندوة العلمية:
Seed banks play a pivotal role in the conservation of plant genetic resources by safeguarding the genetic diversity essential for global food security, ecosystem stability, and future crop improvement. They function as repositories where seeds are collected, dried, and stored under controlled conditions to maintain viability over long periods, protecting plant species from threats such as climate change, habitat loss, overexploitation, and genetic erosion. By preserving both wild relatives and cultivated varieties, seed banks provide invaluable material for breeding programs aimed at enhancing tolerance to abiotic stresses (e.g., drought, salinity, and heat) and resistance to pests and diseases. Moreover, they serve as a genetic insurance system, enabling the restoration of degraded ecosystems and the reintroduction of lost or endangered species
حيث استعرضت الدكتورة أبرز المحاور والنتائج ذات الصلة بالموضوع مقدمتاً طرحاً علمياً قيّماً أثار نقاشاً مثمراً بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والطلاب الحاضرين. وتأتي هذه الندوة ضمن سلسلة الأنشطة العلمية التي يحرص قسم الأحياء على تنظيمها بشكل دوري وذلك في إطار تعزيز النشاط البحثي والأكاديمي بالقسم وحرصاً على إتاحة الفرصة للتفاعل العلمي وتبادل الخبرات والمعارف بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والباحثين وطلاب الدراسات العليا بالقسم.
