Abstract: 

     The notion of a left-symmetric algebra appeared for the first time in the work of J. Koszul and E. Vinberg concerning bounded homogeneous domains and convex homogeneous cones, respectively. Over the field of real numbers, left-symmetric algebras are of special interest because of their role in the differential geometry of affine manifolds and the representation theory of Lie groups. In fact, for a given simply connected Lie group G with Lie algebra ɡ, the left-invariant affine structures on G are in one-to-one correspondence with the left-symmetric structures on ɡ compatible with the Lie structure.

In the present talk, we introduce some basic concepts of the structure theory of left-symmetric algebras and develop an extension theory to classify some special categories of left-symmetric algebras up to dimension 4.
