The virtual international conference “The Interrelationship between Social Sciences, Humanities and Digital Technologies,” organized by Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, represented by the College of Social Sciences, continued its sessions this morning, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, via the Webex platform, with the participation of a select group of researchers and experts from inside and outside the Kingdom, within a series of research sessions that highlighted the digital transformation and its impact on the humanities and social sciences.
The fifth session was opened under the chairmanship of Dr. Hamad bin Mansour Al-Dossari, Professor of Medical Geography and Geographic Information Systems at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, under the title “Digital Technologies in Social and Human Research and Community Service.” The discussions focused on the growing role of digital technologies in addressing social and economic inequality and promoting political participation, in addition to reviewing quantitative applications in historical studies and examining the impact of artificial intelligence on the quality of research in social sciences and higher education, reflecting the continuous development in scientific research methods.
This was followed by the sixth session, entitled “Issues of Culture and Ethics in Digital Technologies,” which was chaired by Professor of Sociology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Society for Social Studies at King Saud University, Dr. Dheeb bin Mohammed Al-Dossari. The researchers addressed topics in preserving cultural heritage through emerging technologies, the challenges of adolescent behavior in the digital space, and the transformations of societal values due to digitization, in addition to studying digital criminal justice and employing artificial intelligence in the clinical practice of social work, which provided an integrated vision of the intersection between culture, ethics, and modern technologies.
In the seventh session, chaired by Dr. Hammad bin Ali Al-Hammadi, Professor of Social Work in the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, a forward-looking vision was presented regarding the future trends of cooperation between social sciences and digital technologies, through the study of cultural and ethical biases in artificial intelligence systems, the analysis of social behavior through digital identities, and the exploration of the impact of comments on artificial intelligence clips on social media platforms, in addition to studying the digital culture of preschool children, with a focus on building advanced digital awareness for future generations.
The eighth session, chaired by Professor Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Yousef, Professor of Sociology at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, concluded under the theme “Integration to Enhance Awareness between the Individual and Technology.” The session explored ways to develop the digital competencies of faculty members, discussed challenges related to data protection and privacy, presented successful models for digitizing cultural heritage, and examined the impact of artificial intelligence on journalistic content and its role in supporting developmental participation, thereby strengthening the integration between the individual and technology to serve society.
