​​​​​​About Department

Based on the review carried out by Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University of the faculties and its academic departments and the specialties provided to its students in order to search for the best and strive to achieve the development goals in our country to contribute effectively to its plans, and in order to meet the need of applied scientific departments and find the infrastructure of basic sciences at the university, approval was issued in 1426 H to establish the Department of Mathematics as a Department affiliated to the College of computer and Information Sciences, resolution No. 13/36/1426. Since that date, the department has become responsible for all courses under the symbol of MAT and STA at the university level for male and female students. Admission of students to the Department of Mathematics began with the beginning of the second semester of the academic year 1426/1427 ah, where the number of students enrolled reached 23 students (males only). Then the Supreme Leader's approval was issued on 25/4/1427 ah on Resolution No. (3331 / ad), the establishment of the College of Science at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, which includes the Department of Mathematics among its departments. During the first semester of the academic year 1430/1431 ah, the first batch of female students was admitted to the women's branch of the University in Malaz, where the number of registered female students reached 22. On 18/11/1432 H, Resolution No. 54727 was approved to change the name of the department to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Hence, the idea of opening other master's and bachelor’s programs began. In 1436 H, the Master of Science in Mathematics program was approved (Resolution No. 2717-1435 / 1436 H), where 10 female students were admitted during the first semester of the academic year 1435/1436 H. In 1442 H, the doctoral program in mathematics was approved (decision number-56-10- 1441/1442 H), provided that the admission should be opened during the first semester of the academic year 1445 H, and in the same year 1442 H, the Bachelor of science program in Applied Statistics was approved decision No.-29-13- 1441/ 1442 H.​

Our Objectives​

  • Put forward excellent academic programs in line with modern development in mathematical sciences. ​Academic programs are designed in accordance with job market needs through the  introduction of  a variety of specialties (Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, applied statistics),  with special emphasis on mathematical applications to equip the graduating students with skills needed to work for companies and research centers.
  • Keep pace with modern development in mathematical sciences through the adoption of updated courses in line with the continuous development of these sciences.
  • Organize training sessions in applied mathematics (such as applied statistics) in accordance with the community's needs, and offer
  • Prepare qualified graduates for higher education and teaching.
  • Activate scientific research and make it the department's top priority  by creating research units in different areas and organize regular scientific seminars.
  • Scientific supervision of courses in mathematics and statistics taught at different faculties of the university.
  • Provide consulting services and organize sessions in applied mathematics and statistics for companies as required within the kingdom.​​​
