The research center at the College of Science - female section - organized a course on the basic skills of poster design for scientific and academic purposes. The course was held online on Thursday 12/5/1438 AH (9/2/2017). The purpose of the course was to prepare for the Research Week activities which started in the subsequent weeks.

The course was presented by Dr. 'Ahad Al-Jarf a faculty member at Umm Al-Qura University. Dr. 'Ahad explained in detail many skills that can help in making science posters. She discussed many topics, most importantly the definition of science posters, assessment factors, science poster presentation skills and reviewing sample posters, in addition to the differences between Arabic and English posters and the main designing applications. Then she provided the students with practical training, and they exchanged ideas and opinions during a thorough explanation of the steps of making scientific posters.

In the same context, Dr. Ghaliah bint Yaḥya Al-Ḥamzi, member and representative of the Research Centre in the female section, said "This training course comes from the concern and support of the Research Centre of the college to train and help students improve and acquire new skills".                                       

In addition to this, Dr, Mohammad ibn Muḥsin Babṭain, the dean of the College of Science, expressed his appreciation of the distinguished role and efforts of the research center at the college in developing the research performance of students as well as faculty of the College of Science. Specific thanks were extended to the supervisor of the course, Dr. Ghalya bint Yaḥya Al-Hamzi; and the director of the center, Dr. Rā'id ibn Hussain Al-Hathlool.,

It is noteworthy that the course was attended by (16) students from different programs, levels, and disciplines. The participants expressed their interest in the work of the academic posters and stressed the importance of holding such courses because of their role in improving the skills of college students.

The students survey indicated the positive effect of the training course and their desire to participate with a scientific poster in the Research Week activities especially after clarifying the concept of the scientific poster and its objectives.              

At the end of the course, Dr. Ghaliah Al-Ḥamzi thanked Dr. 'Ahad Al-Jarf, the presenter of the course, as well as the students for their valuable participation. Dr. Ghaliah Al-Hamzi hoped that the scientific poster course had met students' expectations to help them raise the academic standard of the presentation of their research.
