Developing Solar Cells in a Scientific Seminar at the Physics Department Presented by Dr. AbdulraHman Al-Badri of KACST

The Scientific Committee at the Physics Department organized its third seminar of the academic year 1436 / 1437 AH entitled:

"Development of high efficiency flexible solar cells"

Dr. AbdulraHman Al-Badri, researcher at the National Center for Nano Technology at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, presented the seminar from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, 21 Muharram, 1437 AH - 03 November, 2015 AD. The seminar was followed by remarks and questions from the audience.

Dr. AbdulraHman Al-Badri talked about the types of material used in manufacturing solar cells and several physical technologies used to prepare them and define their competence and cost compared to the quality of conventional solar cells. Dr. Al-Badri reviewed the Nano-technologies for the deposition of layers to group 3-5 on a silicon base and getting several intersections. By reducing the phenomenon of the reflection of solar radiation, the efficiency of the solar cell is raised to 20% to be of economic feasibility. The researcher also explained the peeling techniques which are usually used to get much thinner cells which in return leads to economize the use of the very expensive 3-5 group which reduces the cost of constructing solar cells and raise their efficiency. On the other hand, Dr. Al-Badri reported that the process of impurities in group 3-5 of zinc helped improve features of the cell and raise its efficiency, he also mentioned the processes of improving surfaces of thin slices with hydrogen. Department Staff members took part in the discussion and enriched it.  At the end the Committee thanked Dr. AbdulraHman Al-Badri for the presentation and the National Center of Nano Technology at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology for their cooperation with the Department and their participation in supervising graduation research projects. The Committee also thanked the head of the department, staff members and students. Dr. AbdulraHman Al-Badri thanked the Department for the invitation and encouraged cooperation with staff members for scientific research improvement.

This seminar is part of weekly seminars organized by the Scientific Committee at the Physics Department and presented by staff members of the department and researchers from other research institutions. These seminars aim at motivating scientific research in the department and informing its members of the latest developments in physics sciences in various fields.

It is worth mentioning here that these seminars are open to all university staff including instructors, employees and students.
