في إطار النشاط العلمي والبحثي لقسم الأحياء بكلية العلوم، أقام القسم ندوة علمية (سيمنار علمي) بعنوان:
Natural Flavonoids in Diabetic Complications: Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Perspectives
الفلافونويدات الطبيعية في مضاعفات مرض السكري: الآليات الجزيئية والآفاق العلاجية
قدّمتها سعادة الدكتورة/ سالي مصطفي أحمد، الأستاذ المشارك في القسم، وذلك يوم الاثنين 19 جمادي الاولى 1447هـ، الموافق 10 نوفمبر 2025م في تمام الساعة 08:25 صباحاً بقاعة السيمنارات في قسم الأحياء بالكلية.
وقد تناولت الندوة العلمية ما يلي:
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease marked by high blood glucose level (hyperglycemia) due to defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. DM has different types and considers a multifactorial disease comprising genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Persistent hyperglycemia triggers oxidative stress, inflammation, and cellular damage that contribute to major complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, and cardiovascular diseases. Despite the availability of conventional antidiabetic drugs, long-term therapy often faces limitations related to side effects, cost, and declining efficacy, underscoring the need for novel therapeutic strategies.
Natural flavonoids, a diverse class of polyphenolic compounds widely distributed in fruits, vegetables, and medicinal plants, have shown promising antidiabetic potential. Their beneficial effects arise from multiple molecular mechanisms, including inhibition of carbohydrate-digesting enzymes, stimulation of pancreatic β-cell insulin secretion, and enhancement of insulin signaling through the PI3K/Akt pathway. Moreover, flavonoids exhibit potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, reducing oxidative stress and NF-κB mediated inflammation that underlie insulin resistance and tissue injury. However, Continued molecular and clinical research is essential to validate their long-term safety, optimize formulations, and integrate them effectively into future diabetes management approaches.
كما استعرضت الدكتورة أبرز المحاور والنتائج ذات الصلة، مقدمتاً طرحاً علمياً قيّماً أثار نقاشاً مثمراً بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والطالبات الحاضرات. وتأتي هذه الندوة ضمن سلسلة الأنشطة العلمية التي يحرص قسم الأحياء على تنظيمها بشكل دوري ذلك في إطار تعزيز النشاط البحثي والأكاديمي بالقسم وحرصاً على إتاحة الفرصة للتفاعل العلمي وتبادل الخبرات والمعارف بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والباحثين وطلاب الدراسات العليا بالقسم.
