في إطار النشاط العلمي والبحثي لقسم الأحياء بكلية العلوم (شطر الطلاب)، أقام القسم ندوة علمية بعنوان:

Donation processing, Blood transfusion and Blood bank between advantages and disadvantages

قدّمها سعادة الدكتور أشرف قرطام، الأستاذ المشارك في قسم الأحياء وذلك يوم الاثنين 28 ربيع ثاني 1447هـ الموافق 20 أكتوبر 2025م في تمام الساعة 8:25 صباحاً في قاعة سمنارات قسم الأحياء في شطر الطلاب

وقد تناولت الندوة العلمية ما يلي:

Blood donation, processing, transfusion, and blood banking form an integrated system essential for saving lives. Donation processing involves screening healthy donors, collecting blood, testing for infections, and separating it into components (red cells, plasma, platelets). This maximizes each donation's use but carries minor donor risks such as dizziness and iron depletion and requires strict quality control. Blood transfusion delivers these components to patients during surgery, trauma, anemia, or clotting disorders. It restores blood volume and oxygen but can cause allergic or hemolytic reactions, infection transmission (rare), or fluid overload. Blood banks ensure safe storage, matching, and timely distribution, enabling quick emergency response and component therapy, but face issues like short shelf life, high costs, complex logistics, and occasional shortages. Overall, the advantages—life-saving potential, improved recovery, and efficient medical support—outweigh the disadvantages, though maintaining donor safety, screening accuracy, and inventory management remain ongoing challenges for modern healthcare systems.

حيث استعرض الدكتور أبرز المحاور والنتائج ذات الصلة بالموضوع مقدماً طرحاً علمياً قيّماً أثار نقاشاً مثمراً بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والطلاب الحاضرين.

وتأتي هذه الندوة ضمن سلسلة الأنشطة العلمية التي يحرص قسم الأحياء على تنظيمها بشكل دوري وذلك في إطار تعزيز النشاط البحثي والأكاديمي بالقسم وحرصاً على إتاحة الفرصة للتفاعل العلمي وتبادل الخبرات والمعارف بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والباحثين وطلاب الدراسات العليا بالقسم.​
