The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, embraced by all United Nations Member States in 2015, offers a unified vision for achieving peace and prosperity for both people and the planet, now and in the future. Central to this agenda are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which serve as a pressing call for action from all nations—both developed and developing—through a global partnership. These goals acknowledge that eradicating poverty and other hardships requires integrated efforts that enhance health and education, reduce inequality, and stimulate economic growth, all while addressing climate change and protecting our oceans and forest. United Nations

Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) integrates sustainable development into its core plans and support programs, aiming to achieve sustainability goals through initiatives like energy and water conservation. Efforts to optimize electricity usage include implementing smart lighting technologies, energy-efficient devices, and promoting awareness within the university community about the importance of conserving energy. The water conservation initiative involves installing smart irrigation systems for green spaces, using water-saving faucets and sanitary fixtures, and implementing water recycling programs across university facilities. In environmental conservation, the university focuses on promoting sustainability through waste reduction and recycling programs, encouraging the use of biodegradable materials, and providing recycling stations across the campus. The initiative also seeks to reduce carbon emissions by transitioning to renewable energy sources and encouraging eco-friendly transportation options.
