University Rector Receives the Dean of the College of Science and His Accompanying Delegation

Prof. Sulaiman Aba Al-Khail, University Rector, received a delegation from the College of Science in his office on Monday, 08/16/1437 AH, corresponding to 05/23/2016 AD. The delegation was headed by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Babtain, Dean of the College of Science, and was accompanied by Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Amer, Dean of Distance Education and e-Learning and Former Head of the Physics Department, Professor Abdullah Al-Jouiee, Vice Dean of the College for Higher Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Osama Abdulrahman Al-Daghri, Vice-Dean of the College for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Raed Hussein Al-Hathlool, Vice-Dean of the College for Development and Quality, in addition to Professor Abdulrahman Al-Jazzar, Dr. Anis Ghorbal, Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Ma'youf, Director of Financial and Administrative Affairs of the College, and Mr. Khaled Al-Mansour, from  the Public Relations Department.

The meeting began with a speech by Prof. Aba Al-Khail, in which he welcomed the Dean of the College, the vice-deans, and the accompanying delegation and thanked them for their blessed efforts which has given the College its prominent place among the colleges of the University on the academic, teaching, and research level.

Dr. Muhammad Babtain, Dean of the College of Science, presented an overview about the College, in which he clarified the tangible development of the College as a result of the efforts of all its members in both male and female sections. Therefore, the College has become a pioneer at University level in the fields of scientific research, international publishing, teaching, and translation. The Dean also clarified that the College has an advanced standing in many other areas, such as internally funded research projects by the Deanship of Scientific Research and externally funded research projects by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, under the umbrella of the National Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation.

The Dean also presented to the Rector a copy of the volume of the College of Science published research works in international refereed journals in 2014. These research papers achieved a qualitative and quantitative leap in the international publishing channels. The Dean also presented a copy of the College of Science Strategic Plan "Horizon (Aufuq) 1441 AH," which includes the vision, mission, and strategic objectives of the College. It also includes the initiatives set by the College to be achieved in the time period specified for the Plan. He pointed out that having a strategic plan for any organization means realization of quality standards. A copy of the questionnaire survey of the employers of the College graduates, which shows their distinctiveness in the labor market, was also presented. In addition to the above, the Dean provided a statistical report with numbers and charts showing the great teaching efforts of the College of Science, whether for its students or for students of other colleges at the University. This is an indication that the College Excellence is not limited to scientific research only, but includes also teaching.

At the level of efforts and accomplishments for development and quality, Prof. Aba Al-Khail discussed the College project to obtain academic accreditation, and gave credit to the efforts it made so far in this regard. He also clarified his support for the outstanding efforts of the College in the areas of development, quality, and academic accreditation, as improving the academic and research work is an essential objective of all colleges at the University.

Dr. Muhammad Babtain mentioned that the College prepared all its programs for academic accreditation. The College represented in the Vice-Deanship for Development and Quality has many other achievements which lead to improving the work and establishing its professionalism, such as the College Strategic Plan "Horizon (Aufuq) 1441 AH," job description, College guide, and administrative structuring of the College and all its Vice-Deanships, units and departments. The Vice-Deanship also identified and adopted the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), which contribute to the measurement of all quality standards. It is noteworthy that the academic departments of the College have completed the academic accreditation documents in accordance with 2013 models of the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA). All these achievements have made the College ready to start the project of academic accreditation, which the College has been working hard to achieve since the Development Program.

It was also mentioned during the meeting that the College has introduced two academic programs which will start next academic year 1437/1438 AH. One is the Master of Science in Physics and the other is  the Bachelor of Science in Biology. The total number of academic programs of the College amounts to 6 programs. On the other hand, the first batch of Master of Science in Mathematics and the first batch of Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (Female Section) will graduate by the end of this academic year 1436/1437 AH.

By the end of this meeting, Dr. Muhammad Babtain thanked Prof. Aba Al-Khail for his attention and care for the College of Science and all the other colleges of the University. On his part, the University Rector also thanked the Dean of the College and its vice-deans, faculty members, and all its members for their blessed efforts and asked them to do more in order to achieve the visions and objectives that our rulers  which to see achieved.
