Employment Policies Supporting Women at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University

• Women are permitted to work in any field suitable to their nature, with prohibitions on their employment in dangerous or harmful industries.
• Women are not allowed to be employed during night hours for less than eleven consecutive hours.
• Full medical care must be provided for female employees during pregnancy and childbirth.
• Female employees are entitled to fully paid maternity leave for a duration of ten weeks, which they may allocate as they choose. This leave can begin up to four weeks before the expected delivery date, which must be confirmed by an approved medical certificate.
• Women are prohibited from working during the six weeks immediately following childbirth and have the option to extend their leave by an additional month without pay. In cases where a female employee gives birth to a sick or disabled child requiring continuous care, she is entitled to an additional one-month fully paid leave after her maternity leave, with the option to extend for another month without pay.
• Upon returning to work after maternity leave, female employees are entitled to breastfeeding breaks, which total up to one hour per day, in addition to regular rest breaks. These breaks are counted as part of the actual working hours and do not result in a wage deduction.
• Employers are prohibited from dismissing or issuing a termination notice to female employees during maternity leave or illness related to pregnancy or childbirth, provided the illness is supported by an approved medical certificate. The maximum absence period for such reasons cannot exceed 180 days, whether consecutive or intermittent. It is also forbidden to dismiss a female employee without a legitimate reason within the 180 days preceding the expected delivery date.
Leave Policies for Bereavement
In cases of spousal death, a Muslim female employee is entitled to fully paid iddah leave for a period of four months and ten days. This leave may be extended without pay if the employee is pregnant during this period, continuing until childbirth. After delivery, she is not entitled to the remaining iddah leave. Non-Muslim female employees are entitled to fully paid bereavement leave for fifteen days following the death of a spouse. In all cases, the employee is prohibited from engaging in other employment during this leave period.
